TITLE: The Fields Of Athenry
AUTHOR: Pete St. John (ピート・セント・ジョン)
PERFORMER: The Dubliners (ザ・ダブリナーズ)
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
"Hey baby let the free birds fly"
Our love was on the wing
"Sinn Féin"
We had dreams and songs to sing
"IRA"
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling
Michael they are taking you away
For you stole Trevelyn's corn
So the young might see the morn
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay
Low lie the Fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
Nothing matters Mary when you're free
Against the Famine and the Crown
I rebelled they ran me down
Now you must raise our child with dignity
Low lie the Fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry
By a lonely harbour wall
She watched the last star falling
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky
Sure she'll wait and hope and pray
For her love in Botany Bay
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry
Low lie the Fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry
TITLE: Both Sides Now (ボス・サイズ・ナウ)
AUTHOR: Joni Mitchell (ジョニー・ミッチェル)
PERFORMER: Joni MItchell (ジョニー・ミッチェル)
ジュディー・コリンズは、ジョニー・ミッチェルの曲を他にも、Michael From Mountains(マイケル・フロム・マウンテンズ)やChelsea Morning(チェルシー・モーニング)をLPで取り上げています。
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris Wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
TITLE: Molly Malone (モリー・マローン)
AUTHOR:
PERFORMER: The Dubliners (ザ・ダブリナーズ)
In Dublin's fair city
Where the girls are so pretty
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone
And she wheeled her wheel barrow
Through the streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive alive oh
Alive alive-O
Alive alive-O
Crying cockles and mussels
Alive alive-O
She was a fish monger
And sure it was no wonder
So were her mother and father before
And they wheeled their wheel barrow
Through the streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive alive oh
Alive alive-O
Alive alive-O
Crying cockles and mussels
Alive alive-O
She died of a fever
And no one could save her
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone
Now her ghost wheels her barrow
Through the streets broad and narrow
Crying cockles and mussels alive alive oh
Alive alive-O
Alive alive-O
Crying cockles and mussels
Alive alive-O
TITLE: Hot Asphalt (ホット・アスファルト)
AUTHOR:
PERFORMER: The Dubliners (ザ・ダブリナーズ)
Good evening all me jolly lads I'm glad to find you're well
If you'll gather all around me now the story I will tell
For I've got a situation and begorrah and begob
I can whisper I've the weekly wage of nineteen bob
'Tis twelve months come October since I left me native home
After helping in Killarney boys to bring the harvest down
But now I wear a geansaí and around me waist a belt
I'm the gaffer of the squad that makes the hot asphalt
We laid it in the hollows and we laid it in the flat
And if it doesn't last forever sure I swear I'll eat me hat
Well, I've wandered up and down the world but sure I never felt
Any surface that was equal to the hot asphalt
The other night a copper comes and he says to me, McGuire
Would you kindly let me light me pipe down at your boiler fire
And he planks himself right down in front with hobnails up too late
And says I, me decent man you'd better go and find your bate
He ups and yells, I'm down on you I'm up to all your pranks
Don't I know you for a traitor from the Tipperary ranks
Boys, I hit straight from the shoulder and I gave him such a belt
That I knocked him into the boiler full of hot asphalt
We laid it in the hollows and we laid it in the flat
And if it doesn't last forever sure I swear I'll eat me hat
Well, I've wandered up and down the world but sure I never felt
Any surface that was equal to the hot asphalt
We quickly pulled him out again and we threw him in the tub
And with soap and warm water we began to rub and scrub
But devil the thing, it hardened and it turned him hard as stone
And with every other rub sure you could hear the copper groan
I'm thinkin', says O'Reilly, that he's lookin' like Ould Nick
And burn me if I'm not inclined to claim him with me pick
Now, says I, it would be easier to boil him till he melts
And to stir him nice and easy in the hot asphalt
We laid it in the hollows and we laid it in the flat
And if it doesn't last forever sure I swear I'll eat me hat
Well, I've wandered up and down the world but sure I never felt
Any surface that was equal to the hot asphalt
You may talk about yer sailorlads ballad singers and the rest
Your shoemakers and your tailors but we please the ladies best
The only ones who know the way their flinty hearts to melt
Are the lads around the boiler making hot asphalt
With rubbing and with scrubbing sure I caught me death of cold
And for scientific purposes me body it was sold
In the Kelvingrove Museum, me boys I'm hangin' in me pelt
As a monument to the Irish making hot asphalt
We laid it in the hollows and we laid it in the flat
And if it doesn't last forever sure I swear I'll eat me hat
Well, I've wandered up and down the world but sure I never felt
Any surface that was equal to the hot asphalt
TITLE: A Gentleman Soldier
AUTHOR:
PERFORMER: The Dubliners (ザ・ダブリナーズ)
Well, it's of a gentleman soldier as a sentry he did stand
He saluted a fair maid by a waving of his hand
So boldly then he kissed her and he passed it off as a joke
He drilled her up in the sentry box wapped up in a soldier's cloak
And the drums they go with a rata-ta-tat
And the fifes they loudly play
Fare thee well Polly me dear
I must be going away
All night they tossed and tumbled 'til daylight did appear
The soldier rose, put on his clothes, saying fare you well me dear
For the drums they are a sounding and the fifes does sweetly play
If it weren't for that dear Polly then along with you I'd stay
And the drums they go with a rata-ta-tat
And the fifes they loudly play
Fare thee well Polly me dear
I must be going away
Oh, come you gentleman soldier, won't you marry me
Oh no, me dearest Polly such things never can be
For I've a wife already and children I have three
Two wives are allowed in the army but one's too many for me
And the drums they go with a rata-ta-tat
And the fifes they loudly play
Fare thee well Polly me dear
I must be going away
If anyone comes a courting you you can treat them to a glass
If anyone comes a courting you you can say you're a country lass
You don't have to tell them that ever you played this joke
That you were drilled in a sentry box wrapped up in a soldier's cloak
And the drums they go with a rata-ta-tat
And the fifes they loudly play
Fare thee well Polly me dear
I must be going away
Oh, come you gentleman soldier, why didn't you tell me so
My parents will be angry when this they come to know
And when nine long months had come and passed the poor girl she brought shame
She had a little militia boy and she didn't know his name
And the drums they go with a rata-ta-tat
And the fifes they loudly play
fare thee well Polly me dear
I must be going away
