ツイストというダンスは、1950年代後半にハンク・バラード・アンド・ザ・ミッドナイターズ(Hank Ballard & The Midnighters)が出した「ザ・ツイスト(The Twist)」という曲がきっかけになり、チャビー・チェッカー(Chubby Checker: 1941-)がカバーをし、大流行に至ったようです。

ツイスティン・ザ・ナイト・アウェー(Twistin’ The Night Away)は、サム・クック(Sam Cooke: 1931-1964)のヒット曲で、70年代前半にロッド・スチュワート(Rod Stewart: 1945-)が「ネバー・ア・ダル・モーメント(Never A Dull Moment)」というLPでカバーしています。

日本では、めんたんぴんが70年代中ごろに「ツイストで踊り明かそう」という題名でカバーしています。また、21世紀に入ってからはトータス松本(Tortoise Matsumoto:1966-)もLPごとカバーしています。
